Nathan Hughes is an American musician, singer-songwriter, lead singer and creative force behind the indie band John the Prophet. Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Mavis Staples, and Joshua James, his greatest strength is his ability to distill imagery and ideas to their essence within simple melodies. He has an apparent sense of ‘the lyric’ being the most important aspect to his songwriting. With many themes and ideas to be explored, he uses his songs as the platform he needs for expression.
His mid-2012 three song self-titled EP, available on ITunes & Spotify, specifically explores some theologically based ideas. He is currently in the studio working on a John the Prophet full length, early 2014, release to which he says, ‘the best is yet to come.’
